Green Bay to Mackinac City approximately 200 milesMackinac Island to the farthest point in the North Channel approximately 175 miles.
Access to fuel and provisions? Gas, Diesel, pump out, water are available at most marinas. Marinas are about every 20-30 miles apart. Food and basic needs are available at most marinas. Like most places, the larger the town the better pricing and choice you will get.
Do I have to worry about hitting rocks? I have been there several times and never hit bottom. The waterways are marked very well. Current chart plotters are very accurate. Use your head and you will be fine.
How much time do I need? We found that the average person needs about 10 days minimum. This amount of time will allow you a good overview on where to go and you will see several highlights. I personally like to spend about 2 weeks just in the North Channel but that's me.
What about Customs? The Canada customs will require the following: Photo ID or proof of citizenship, birth certificate will work Boat Hull ID numbers Animal vaccinations Limited amount of alcohol No fire arms
Note, we have never talked to a customs agent face to face when checking in, they have a phone you pick up and you tell them you are in there country and give them your information. The customs agent will give you a number that you write down on a piece of paper and then you tape the paper to the window of your boat, that's it.
Do I have to anchor out every night? No, there are marinas about every 30 miles with ample power and water. Anchoring is one of the highlights of the North Channel and there are many protected coves.
How is the shopping for my wife? If you need to ask this question stay home. Don't plan on shopping.
What is there to do? Fishing Swimming Water Ski Dingy and explore by land and/ or water Bon fires See something new
Is there Medical attention? Medical facilities are available and, the best thing is it is Canada, and it is free to everyone.
